TestBlogNov18This is a test blog entry. Do you see what I'm writing? It's pretty exciting!. If you're reading this, you might want to consider reading my main blog at http://blog.robdolin.com/ Cheers--
--Rob 3月11日 Switching TeamsLater this month, I will be starting work on the MSN Spaces team. For now, I am leaving this blog up as a resource; but I do not expect to be updating it with Publisher content. Here are my most frequently viewed posts:
2月22日 Which MS Office Suites is Microsoft Publisher 2007 going to be in?According to this pretty graph on microsoft.com/office/preview, Publisher 2007 will be in the Small Business, Professional, Professional Plus, and Enterprise suites of Microsoft Office 2007. As someone working on Publisher, I'm really glad that all of the higher-end business and professional suites will include Publisher.
I think Publisher is a great value for Home and Student use also, but I'm guessing folks who want Publisher will may consider buying Small Business or Professional instead of Home and Student.
Also, for folks who are so excited about Publisher that they're starting to save now, the marketing folks have posted estimated retail pricing. Publisher "12" to be called Microsoft Publisher 2007The branding for Office "12" was announced last week (while I was on vacation) and the company is going with the date schema of "Microsoft Office 2007." I'm personally glad that we're using a date again since I remember attending a trade show in 2003 and trying to understand from customers who had "XP" if they have Windows XP + Office XP or Windows XP + some other version of Office; or possibly even some other version of Windows + Office XP. 2月14日 Publisher ClassesAll over the country (and world), there are classes being offered in using Publisher. Here are a few that have crossed my inbox. While this is not a comprehensive list, I hope this helps paint the picture of where you may be able to find a class on Publisher. If you know of others, please feel free to add these to the comments section. Thanks.
2月1日 New Book: Easy Web Design (includes Publisher)1月12日 Article on Networking with Business CardsI came across a great article: "10 Powerful Networking Tips Using Business Cards" that I thought would be relevant for blog readers both because of its relevance to growing businesses and also because Publisher is a great tool for creating business cards. A short run can be printed on a desktop printer with paper from the local office supply store; or a larger run can be taken to a commercial printer. 1月2日 Matching Publisher Template SetsMany people don't realize that their current copy of Microsoft Publisher comes with dozens of professionally designed templates. Since Publisher 98, the Publisher team has hired professional graphic designers to create matching "Business Sets" of templates that include letterhead, business cards, envelopes, brochures, newsletters, postcards, gift certificates, and more. Below is the number of "Business Sets" in recent versions of Publisher:
12月29日 Web sites for Publisher templatesIn addition to the templates that ship with Publisher, there are tons of great template authors out there who provide their templates on the web (sometimes free and sometimes for a fee.) I've been looking at this ecosystem and below are some of my notes on places to find Publisher templates:
12月28日 Publisher 2003 TrialActually its a 30-day trial version of all of Office 2003 Professional including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Publisher. Many of the Office 2003 system products are available for CD, downloadable, or online trial. A full list is here: http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/default.mspx. 12月20日 5 Holiday Tips for Microsoft PublisherBelow are some ideas compiled by members of the Microsoft Publisher team for using Publisher around the winter holiday season. We hope that you find Publisher useful both around the winter holidays and throughout the year.
1. Holiday Cards with Publisher Publisher is a great tool for creating Greeting Cards. You can design your own from a blank or use a template. The latest version of Publisher includes templates for holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, Thanksgiving and many more. You can also find additional templates on Office Online (http://www.microsoft.com/office/publisher.) Also, if you’re like me and can’t think of anything to say aside from Happy Holidays, Publisher includes dozens of suggested verses.
2. Gift Labels You may not be able to attach a card to every gift you may be sending, but you likely want to label gifts so that you know who to give it to and the recipient knows who it is coming from. Depending on the size of the label you want, Publisher’s Mailing Label, Shipping Label, Business Card, or Postcard templates will help you quickly and easily create a nice-looking label for your gift.
3. Addresses with MailMerge You can save the time of writing out all those addresses and address all your holiday cards at once using Publisher’s Mail Merge feature. Merge an address list directory onto envelopes or cards, or use the feature to print mailing labels.
4. Personalize a Merge with Insert as Picture If you’re printing your own holiday cards (or thank you cards), Publisher’s Insert as Picture feature (new in 2003) is the perfect way to generate not only personalized text but also personalized pictures. Instead of sending the same card to everyone on your list, you can send one card with personalized picture and greeting to a family celebrating one holiday and a different, personalized card to a family celebrating another holiday.
5. Give Back Around the winter time, many of us consider helping those who are less fortunate through donating our money or time to charitable organizations. One way to consider giving back to your favorite charitable organization is to donate your Publisher skills to help them create publications like newsletters, brochures, flyers, event invitations, or even a website or e-mail newsletter.
If you have a tip that you would like to share, please comment. 12月16日 New UI for Publisher "12"Some readers of this blog are beta testers of Office "12" Beta1 and have asked why Publisher uses the legacy pull-down menus and toolbars user interface metaphor instead of the newer tabs and ribbon metaphor that some of the other Office "12" applications are using. My co-worker, Jensen Harris has a great blog posting describing the reasoning behind the decision to only do the new tabs and ribbon metaphor for some applications.
However, it is worth noting that Publisher "12" has made some very significant improvements in its Getting Started user experience and also to the user experience for merging (MailMerge, Catalog Merge, and new for Publisher in "12": E-mail Merge.) 12月13日 Tips for Publisher "12" and NewsgroupsFor readers of this blog who are Beta testers of Publisher "12" Beta1, I have started posting daily "Today's Tips" in the Beta newsgroup for Publisher.
In general, if you're looking for an interactive discussion of Publisher or some quick help, I recommend leveraging the public "Publisher General" newsgroup. They're a great resource and filled with interesting questions and answers. There are also Publisher newsgroups on:
12月6日 What's New in Publisher "12" Beta1As you may have heard, a few weeks ago, Microsoft released Office "12" Technical Beta (aka Beta1.) I (along with many of my colleagues who have been working to make this the best release of Publisher ever) am really excited that we are sharing the product of our recent work with the world (or at least about 10,000 customers and partners participating in Beta1.)
Below is a listing of features that are new in Pub "12." If you have some thoughts on these might make you more successful with Publisher or what you think is missing, please comment. Thanks.
